MediNous HMS Features

Web based application

MediNous HMS is web enabled seamlessly integrated application supporting distributed centre transactions. MediNous HMS is based on the latest MS web based technology.

Compliance to International Standards practices:

  • ICD 10 (WHO standard for physician diagnosis
  • Health Level Seven (HL7)
  • MediNous HMS is Health Level Seven (HL7) compliant. HL7 is an American National Standards Institute (ANSI) approved Standards Developing Organization (SDO). HL7 focuses on the interface requirements of the entire health care organization. HL7 is a standard for exchanging information between medical applications. Hospitals and other medical institutions typically use many different types of systems to gather information. Everything, from patient records to billing information, is tracked and recorded in computer systems. In order for these different types of systems to communicate with each other, a standard like HL7 proves useful.

    Applications of HL7:

HL7 as a standard messaging protocol is used

    • For electronic data interchange between healthcare/clinical applications and insurance applications for processing of payments.
    • For transmitting clinical data captured by laboratory/radiology equipments to the healthcare applications.
    • For sharing data between various disparate systems that may exist in the same healthcare institution.
    • For sharing vital clinical information about a patient between two entirely separate healthcare institutions using different systems, so that the entire case history of patient is readily available to another institution in the event of the patient moving to a different geographical region.
  • SOAP (Subjective, Objective, Assessment and Planning) for Physicians
  • Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM)

HIPAA Compliance:

MediNous HMS caters to HIPAA standards. HIPAA is the acronym for the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) is a set of rules to be followed by health plans, doctors, hospitals and other health care providers.

Clinical focus on EMR:

The application incorporates a comprehensive EMR enabling superior clinical decision making, improved patient safety, increased efficiencies and better hospital- patient relations.

Advanced Prescribing:

MediNous Prescription allows easy selection of drugs in a variety of ways. The doctors, based on their specialty can define their own set of favorite drugs. The application monitors and prompts alerts to prevent drug to drug interactions and contraindications of drugs against health problems or allergies. MediNous is integrated with industry standard drug database providing the latest and updated drug dictionary to the health care practitioners.

Template based (SOAP Practice) Physician diagnosis:

The doctor records information broadly under 4 heads called as SOAP (Subjective, Objective, Assessment, and Plan). Based on their specialty, the physician can define his/her own templates for structured care assessments. These templates improve the quality of recording the patient symptoms, diagnose and suggesting treatment plans.

Established Hygiene factors:

Established process credentials CMMi Level 5 v1.1, ISO 9001:2008, ISO 27001:2005.

Superior Reporting:

Due to this fully integrated online system the various medical and administrative reports are online available for management at the click of a button at their terminal, enabling faster and superior decision making. Highly graphic executive Dashboard/MIS enables the executive management to monitor pivotal metrics.

Improved user experience:

MediNous HMS is based on the Extensible Application Markup Language (XAML) - the next generation GUI from Microsoft powered by Direct X technologies resulting in a rich and enhanced GUI for the users.

Integration with Third Party Applications:

MediNous HMS can also be interfaced seamlessly with third party systems and devices such as:

  • Picture Archival & Communications System (PACS) for imaging solutions
  • Laboratory Analyzers
  • Barcode and RFID
  • Document Management System
  • Palmtop, PDA & other hand-held devices.
  • Digital Pads
  • Speech recognition software
  • EPABX system
  • Smart Card

Online integration with PACS and laboratory equipments:

MediNous can be seamlessly integrated with PACS (Picture Archival Communication System), enabling the physicians to view the patient radiology images from physician EMR. Integration with lab equipments aids in online result entry without manual intervention.

  • PACS Integration
  • MediNous HMS can be integrated with PACS.

  • Approach towards integration with PACS
  • Work flow
    • Radiology investigation request will be raised in the MediNous application
    • To incorporate the investigation request raised in the MediNous HMS to the PACS system, the investigation request needs to be pushed into the PACS system. This will be done on saving the investigation request. The request identifier will ideally contain the patient info (id and name), the MediNous investigation request number and the MediNous radiology test id/description.
    • The request information will be imported into the PACS solution and an acknowledgement will be sent back to MediNous as request fulfilled. A log will be created for every such transfer
    • There will be folders to store the request generated from MediNous and sent to PACS system namely – to be processed, successfully processed and rejected.
    • When the radiology test is done, the corresponding images will be stored in the PACS server. The name of the image should be a combination of patient id, investigation request number and test id (for MediNous HMS to correlate the image with the particular MediNous investigation request)
    • From a link in the patient’s medical record related to Radiology service, a doctor would view the RADIOLOGY images from the PACS server using the view available in the PACS software solution. This would be made possible by passing the parameters (patient id, inv request and test id) from MediNous application to the PACS server in a way that would be understood by the PACS application
  • Workflow patterns – Benefits
  • When a study has been reported by a radiologist the PACS marks it as read. This avoids needless double-reading. The report can be attached to the images and be viewable via a single interface.

  • Barcode/RFID and integration with third party applications:
  • MediNous HMS can be integrated with Barcodes/RFID for stock management, Drug Management and Patient tracking. The application can also be seamlessly integrated with PDA devices, SMS interface, Document Management System (DMS), Voice recording applications (for ease of patient diagnosis by physicians), Digital pads, HRMS, Oracle E Business, Sage Accounting, Tally and so on.

  • Improved Security and User control:
  • The advanced role-based access model and architecture incorporates a flexible security matrix defining the users and their permissions within each module. This ensures that only care providers with the proper authorization have access to patient information.
